The Lady Panthers hosted their annual Brusly High Volleyball Tournament, hosting may of the best teams in the area last week.
Although the Lady Panthers didn’t have the success they wanted on the court after they were knocked out in the quarterfinal round by Central Catholic (who went on the win the championship) the tournament still proved to be a success.
On Thursday, Sept. 14, it was another meeting between cross-parish rivals, the Port Allen Lady Pelicans. Brusly won the pool play game in two sets: 25-15 and 25-13.
Pool play continued on Saturday, Sept. 16, when Brusly defeated False River Academy in three sets: 25-14, 22-25 and 15-13. The Lady Panthers then went on to defeat Zachary in three sets: 23-25, 25-19, and 15-5.
On Saturday evening, the playoff rounds began with two Iberville neighbors winning their quarterfinal round matches. White Castle High School defeated West Feliciana High School and Plaquemine High School defeated Livonia High School.
Baton Rouge High School then went on to beat False River. After a nail-biter of the third match with Brusly and Central Catholic splitting their first two matches, the Lady Panthers fell.
The semifinal round saw Baton Rouge defeating White Castle and Central Catholic sending home Plaquemine.
Central Catholic went on to win the championship against Baton Rouge High.
Brusly’s Mallary Thibodeaux was the lone Lady Panther named to the tournament’s All Star team along with:
Ter’yanna Johnson (Central Catholic), Katie Hoffpauir (Central Catholic), Raegan Rozas (Baton Rouge), Tayler Strickland (Baton Rouge), De’Jaun Williams (Plaquemine), Katelyn Brooks (False River), Sha’myra Stevenson (White Castle), Trelencia Johnson (West Feliciana) and Tayoona Wilson (Livonia).
