An Erwinville native moved to Texas and took the passion he found in Port Allen football with him. Romello DeCuir, a native of Erwinville and resident of Houston, Texas, received 10 D-3 and 5 D-2 offers to play collegiate football.
DeCuir decided to join the Texas Southern University football team as an offensive guard. DeCuir played for the Westfield High School Mustangs his senior year of high school as an offensive guard.
Before transferring to Westfield High School, DeCuir found his passion for football during the 2015-16 season under the direction of former Port Allen High School football coach Nick Mitchell.
When he transferred to pursue his dream of playing collegiate football, DeCuir started on the fourth string and worked his way to the first string rotation for the Mustangs. The season ended, and DeCuir thought his shot at playing collegiate ball was over until the offers began.
“I’m so grateful to God and all Romello’s support staff for this opportunity of a lifetime. I know he will work hard to make his teammates and coaching staff very proud of the opportunity he has been given,” India DeCuir, Romello DeCuir’s mom said.
Romello Decuir graduated from Westfield High School with a 4.22 grade point average. He plans to pursue a career in the medical field as either an optometrist or pharmacist.
