Eight-year-old Marie Hebert (left) is pictured in her first communion dress in 1948 that was handmade by her mother. McCaulley (right), the most recent girl to wear the dress in the family, is pictured at her first communion last week.
Using organdy, lace and pearls, Corrine Johnson handcrafted the dress nearly 70 years ago, according to Hebert.
Five other girls have worn the dress since then, she said. The dress is something each girl looks forward to wearing for their first communion, she said. “I’m proud to loan it to them.”
Hebert said she keeps the dress in good condition by handwashing it after each use and then storing it in a sealed box.
