Brusly Police Chief race highlights Nov. 4 election

West Baton Rouge Parish residents will once again have the opportunity to make their voices heard, as the November 4 election date nears.

In a statewide vote that will elect several U.S. Senators and House Representatives, one race within the parish has intrigued many – the race for Brusly’s newest Police Chief.

In Brusly, a new Chief of Police will be elected to complete the last two years of former chief Jamie Whaley’s four-year term. Whaley resigned his position with the town prior to pleading guilty to malfeasance in office in April.


WBRSO deputy arrested in Baton Rouge

A West Baton Rouge Sheriff Deputy was arrested Thursday, October 23, in Baton Rouge after allegedly propositioning prostitutes for free sex.

Florian Deutsch, 33, of 8th St. in Port Allen, was arrested for propositioning prostitutes for sexual favors and using his badge as leverage.

The Sheriff’s Office reportedly fired Deutsch as soon as they received word of his arrest.


Youth Empowerment more than a walk

“Youth empowerment” is more than just the name of a walk held Saturday, Oct. 18, according to Port Allen Middle School Football Coach Kevin Lawrence.

“Youth empowerment” is Lawrence’s calling and occupation, he said.
