According to a press release, engineering work on the extension of the levee top trail from the Ferry Landing Park is underway, and the project is expected to go out for bid this year.

The City of Port Allen and West Baton Rouge Parish have each put up $50,000 for a total of $100,000 in the joint venture to extend the trail to the north.

Port Allen Interim Mayor Lynn Robertson said that the new section of trail will extend about eight to nine blocks to about Rosedale Road. It will be a 4-inch blacktop surface.

Future plans call for extending the trail to the Old Mississippi River Bridge.

“The park and trail have been very popular, and get a lot of use by residents and visitors,” noted Mayor Robertson. “This project is another phase of the vision for a trail from the old bridge to the new Mississippi River Bridge.”
