WBR Sheriff’s deputies found an explosive device in the bed of a truck in front of a West Baton Rouge home Saturday night.
Deputies were called to 1368 W. Parkway Drive, near Plantation Ave. off La. 415 around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night, May 11 after receiving a call from the owner of the truck where the device was found.
WBRSO Colonel Richie Johnson said that the sheriff’s office “received a call from the guy who owned the truck saying ‘somebody saw somebody messing around in the back of my truck and I just walked out there and it looks like a bomb.’”
Johnson said that the device was, in fact, rigged to explode and “it could have done exactly what it was supposed to do,” if deputies had not been called.
The Louisiana State Police and Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control were on hand to handle the device. The state police’s bomb squad was able to safely perform a controlled detonation, according to Johnson.
No one was injured, and the matter is under investigation.
