Iola Bertha Williams

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day. And not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." II Timothy 4:6-8. On Feb. 16, 2014, at approximately 9:05 a.m., Iola Bertha Williams, affectionately known as "Ola B," "Cousin I" and "Neighbor," ended her earthly journey with family by her side at her residence. Iola was born Jan. 5, 1929, to the union of Oscar and Myrtle Williams. She was a native and resident of Plaquemine, La., and atteneded Turnervile Public School, the first school established in Iberville Parish. Iola was baptized on July 11, 1943, by the late Rev. Coleman Parker at Greater Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Iola has served in many capapcities under the leadership of the late Rev. W. L. McNell Sr. and Rev. Clyde E. McNell Sr. Her affiliations included church recording secretary, senior choir member and treasurer, pastor support team member, and honorary usher. Iola retired from Country's Cafe and City Cafe in Plaquemine where she worked for many years. Iola is survived by her five devoted and loving children, Roger Breaux Sr. (Berdell), of Plaquemine, Linda Jean Williams (Frank), of Brusly, Brenda Powers (Rev. Arthur), of Plaquemine, Coretta O'Bear (Wade), of Brusly, and Lionel Williams, of Plaquemine; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. With her kind heart and sweet spirit, Iola was compassionate to many as she genuinely touched the lives of everyone with whom she encountered. Iola was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Myrtle Williams; two sisters, Dorothy Williams and Lily Cole; two grnadchildren, Angela Snearl and Jesse Evans Jr.; and a great-grandchild, Ja'Marques Green. Viewing was held at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 4 p.m. until religious service at 7 p.m. Viewing resumed at the church on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Clyde E. McNell Sr. Interment at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. Arrangements with Pugh's Mortuary Plaquemine.
