Leslie passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 at his residence in Pride, LA surrounded by his loving family.

He was 76, a native of Liberty, MS and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA. Leslie served as Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Rangers at Fort Huachuca, AZ where he received numerous medals and accommodations. After his discharge he worked at the Solvay chemical plant in Baton Rouge. He attended Louisiana State University where he obtained his degree in Accounting. He worked for John C. Kennedy, Sr. for awhile before starting his own practice. He was a Certified Public Accountant for 52 years, performing tax and bookkeeping work for clients in Louisiana and Mississippi. With his father, he was founder and co-owner of Amite River Fish Industries in Liberty, MS, raising and processing catfish to be sold to restaurants and seafood markets in Louisiana and Mississippi. He was a member of the Trinity Union #372 Masonic Grand Lodge of Louisiana F. & A.M. He served as a youth minister and deacon at Weller Avenue Baptist Church and at Oakcrest Baptist Church in Baton Rouge. He loved his family, he loved his country, but most of all he loved his God. Leslie is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Michael T. Byrd and Candice Kinney Byrd of Baton rouge, LA, Richard T. Byrd and Stacie Ransonet Byrd of Cypress, TX, William E. Byrd and Ashley Warren Byrd of Pride, LA; daughter, Sybil Leslie Byrd and fiancée Jerrod H. Barner of Katy, TX; eight grandchildren, Brannon T. Byrd and wife Sheila of Prairieville, LA, Megan Byrd Boudreaux and husband Sgt. John D. Boudreaux II of Port Allen, LA, Jordan M. Byrd of Baton Rouge, LA, Conner T. Byrd and Carson P. Byrd of Cypress, TX, Thomas J. Byrd and Hunter R. Byrd of Pride, LA, and Mariette Gracie Barner of Katy, TX; four great grandchildren, Mallory R. Byrd, Lillian M. Byrd and Jackson T. Byrd all of Prairieville, LA; John D. Boudreaux of Port Allen, LA; also numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends; two sisters, Sharon Byrd Terrell and husband Bobby H. Terrell, Leila Byrd Howard and Garnett Howard; two brothers, Ronald E. Byrd and Lorena Byrd, Jerry L. Byrd and Joyce Byrd all of Liberty, MS and a sister-in-law, Gladys Sanders Byrd of Houston, TX; two former wives, Peggy Brown of Baton Rouge, LA and Diane Deville of New Roads, LA. Leslie is preceded in death by his parents, William Alvin and Vara Robinette Byrd; special uncle, Thomas I. Byrd; brother, Douglas A. Byrd and numerous other aunts and uncles. Visitation was at Rabenhorst funeral Home, 825 Government St., Sunday, March 16, 2014, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with Masonic services at 7:00 p.m. Graveside services were held Monday, March 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m in Nunnery Cemetery, Liberty, MS.
