Anna Ray Matherne

A native of White Castle and resident of Port Allen, she passed away peacefully Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Butterfly Wing in the Baton Rouge General at age 73..

She was a retired homemaker. She was a member of the "59 Club" at Port Allen High school. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Archie D. Matherne; son, Melvin Free, Jr. and wife Margaret of Belen, NM; daughter, Danna Thompson and husband Glenn of Port Allen; daughter, Brittany Free of Port Allen; step-children Ione and husband Milton Bourque, K.D. Matherne; granddaughters, Candy Free, Miranda Free, Ashley Thompson, Emma Poirrier; 7 step-grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; a sister, Faye Mendoza, and dearest friend, Audry Fry. Preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Hilda Delapasse; brother, Gary Delapasse; and son, Allen Troy Free. Pallbearers are Glenn Thompson, Tracy Medine, Randy Graves, James Blanchard, Michael Blanchard & Milton Bourque. Visitation was at 5:00pm to 9:00pm Monday, April 28, 2014 at Wilbert Funeral Home - Port Allen and again on Tuesday, 9:00am to 11:00am April 29, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lakeland. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:00am Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church - Lakeland conducted by Father Todd Lloyd. Interment was at Grace Memorial Park - Plaquemine. Special Thanks to the Baton Rouge General and the staff at The Butterfly Wing.
