Retired high school teacher, Mrs. Willie Mae Payne departed this life on Saturday, July 12, 2014.

She was 79 years old and a resident of Port Allen, LA. Willie Mae is survived by Charley Payne, her husband of 60 years; her son, Harold Payne and wife Veronica, daughter, Yvette Payne and husband, Kenneth, and daughter Chevonne Payne. Willie Mae received both her Bachelors and Masters of Science from Southern University, Baton Rouge. She also received numerous National Science Foundation grants for the Study of Aerospace Science. She loved learning and she loved teaching. Willie Mae was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and an active member of Scout’s United Methodist Church. Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Goings, Sr. and Mary Norflin Goings of Weyonoke, Louisiana; and her siblings Ralph and Nancy Lee Goings. She is survived by 2 sisters, Mary Goings Smith and Gloria Dean Collins; 3 brothers, Willie Goings, Jr. (Hattie), Eugene Goings (Emma) and Rayfield Goings (Gwen); 7 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Visitation will be held at Hall Davis & Sons @ 9348 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge on Thursday July 17, 2014 from 1 – 7pm (Family visitation 5 – 7 pm). Visitation resumes on Friday, July 18, 2014 @ Scouts United Methodist Church, 210 Atchafalaya Street, Port Allen starting at 9:00 am and continues until services begin at 11:00 am. Interment follows at Louisiana National Cemetery in Zachary, LA. Rev. Willie Laws will conduct services.
