Funeral services were held for Lawrence “Skipper” Lefeaux, III, 70, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Athens on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at 10 am with Rev. Eddie Balance, officiating. Interment followed at Old Athens Cemetery. The family received friends at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 405 E. 5th St., Homer, LA on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
Skipper was born Oct. 4, 1942 in Haynesville to Lawrence Ivy Lefeaux, Jr. and Nelle Bailey Lefeaux. He entered into rest Wednesday, Jan. 2nd at his home in Athens following a lengthy illness. Skipper grew up in Port Allen and retired from Ethyl Corporation in Baton Rouge. After retirement, he moved back to Athens and worked and retired from Wade Correctional Center. He was an avid LSU fan, a longtime member of New Hope Baptist Church and loved to hunt, fish and cooking for the kids.
Skipper was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Martha Butler Lefeaux of Athens; 3 daughters, Cindy Watkins and husband Keith of Athens, Janet Spurlock and husband Jon of Athens and Stacey Hollenshead and husband Bill of Homer; 2 step-sons, Jeff Elmore and wife Carolyn of Alvin, TX and Michael Elmore and fiancé Nikki of Shreveport; 1 brother, Jules K. Lefeaux and wife Patricia of Brusly, LA; 4 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.
Pallbearers were Keith Watkins, Jon Spurlock, Bill Hollenshead, Michael Elmore, Jeff Elmore and Jeff Butler.
Honorary pallbearers were Jonathan Lefeaux, Bobby Lyles, George Dauzat, Danny Dillon, Albert Austin and Chuck “Shorty” Rushing.
