A resident of Baton Rouge and a native of New Roads, she passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital.
She was 88 years young. She retired from Woman's Hospital Cancer Detection Laboratory after 30 years service. Not only was she a wonderful wife, mother and other-in-law, but she was a true friend to everyone whose path she ever crossed. She was the most loving, caring, and giving person anyone could ever ask for. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Charles D. "Chuck" Smith, Jr., and wife Becky, James Brett Smith and wife Gracie and three daughters; Sandra S. "Corky" Kees, Patricia "Pat" Smith, all of Baton Rouge, and Linda S. Chaney of Canyon City, Colorado; 11 grandchildren, Dana C. LeJeune and husband Lyle, Denise C. Martin, Debbie Chaney, Dawn Quirk and husband Todd, Darcy Alfaro and Carlos, Kevin T. Kees, Kristen S. Theriot, Chuck Smith and Brittni, Natalie Normand and Travis, Emily Normand and Claire Guidry, as well as a foster grandchild, Michael LeBlanc, 19 great-grandchildren, the two youngest being Hayes Vidrine and Presli Jo Smith, who both made her eyes sparkle with joy every time she saw them. She also was fortunate enough to have three beautiful great-great-grandchildren, Macy and Mya Petho and Marguerite Babin. She is also survived by a wonderful sister-in-law, Jo Patin and two nieces and a nephew, Kelli Patin and Karen Clark and Keith Patin and his wife, Bridget, who have always been there for her and whom she loved dearly. And last by not least, she is survived by an abundance of friends and her loving dog, Sam. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Smith, a daughter, Terri Maree Smith, her parents, Hubert and Eleanor Patin, a brother, Kenneth "Bozo" Patin and two sisters, Estelle Patin and Ivy Lee Gilmore. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge, LA from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Monday, January 21st. Visitation reopened at the Funeral Home at 9:00 am on Tuesday, January 22nd with the service taking place in the South Chapel at 11:00 am. Burial was at Greenoaks Mausoleum. The family would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to her longtime physicians Dr. Bradley Meek, Dr. Paul Garrett, and Dr. Derrick Spell for their loving care and concern for her over the years. Also thanks to her two lifelong friends from Port Allen, Joe Lefeaux and "Skippy" Vince who made her last months so much happier just be being in her life. And last by not least, we would all like to thank Rev. Michi Head and Rev. Stephen Zuber along with our church family at Jefferson Methodist for all of their loving care and prayers throughout this time.
