Oct. 20, 1916 - Jan. 16, 2013. Catherine DiBenedetto passed away peacefully in Walnut Creek, Calif. at age 96.
She was born in Donaldsonville and raised on a farm with eleven siblings. At 27, she married Oscar DiBenedetto of Lobdell. They eventually moved to Oakland, Calif., where she worked in various jobs until her retirement. In 1979, they returned to Port Allen and built their home for retirement and to be close to Oscar's family. For 27 years, she was a dedicated member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Her favorite hobbies were baking, cooking and sewing. She also loved the traditional Italian Feast of St. Joseph. Both in California and Louisiana, family and church were the center of her life. Catherine is survived by her son, Michael, and her younger brother, Johnny. Catherine was loving, kind and caring. She will always be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend. A memorial mass was held at Holy Family Catholic Church, Port Allen, on Friday, February 1 at 10 a.m.
