Herman J. Truxillo

Herman Joseph Truxillo, born on October 9, 1921 in Gretna, La., raised in Port Allen and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the age of 91.

He graduated from Port Allen High School and Delgado Community College, and served in the United States Navy in World War II in the CB unit in the South Pacific Islands. Herman served as a member of the United States Military Selective Service System for 20 years and retired from Ethyl Corporation, now Albemarle, in 1982 after 32 years of service where he served as director of the Ethyl Management Club while employed there. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the American Legion, and past member and president of Baton Rouge Sportsman's League. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was proud to live in sportsman's paradise. Herman was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Slaven Truxillo; daughters, Brenda Truxillo of Baton Rouge and Jo Ann Slaydon and husband Les of Baton Rouge; grandsons, Brad Beridon and wife Heather of Katy, TX, Bryan Slaydon of Baton Rouge, and Kyle Slaydon of Baton Rouge; great grandchildren, Connor and Kailyn Beridon; and sisters, Lois Dedon and Aline Rogers. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Annette Truxillo; and brothers, Bill Truxillo and Roy Truxillo. Visitation was held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and resumed on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 10 a.m. conducted by Fr. Martin. Interment followed in Greenoaks Memorial Park.
