Doris Cecile Hanks Eiswirth passed away at her home in Baton Rouge with her loving husband of seventy-four years at her side.

She was 97. She died on April 10, 2013 at 12:10 a.m. Mrs. Eiswirth was born on August 1, 1915 in Baton Rouge to Arlow Vern Hanks and his wife, Epsie Wilson Hanks. She married Richard John Eiswirth, Jr. on February 15, 1939 at Sacred Heart Church in Baton Rouge. They met when she was working at the first Walgreens Drugstore in Baton Rouge. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet. She was a founding member of Our Lady of Mercy Parish. She is survived by husband, Richard John (RJ) Eiswirth, five children, Nancy Heller and husband Herb of Alexandria, LA, Judith Shellabarger and husband Jim of Houston, TX, John Eiswirth and wife Jo Ann, of Gonzales, LA, Susan Schlecht of Brusly, LA, and Mary Beth Russell and husband Gary of Brusly, LA, thirteen grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arlow and Epsie, five siblings, Gardner, Willard, Alvin, and Grace Hanks and Yvonne Williams, and grandson Davy Schlecht. Visitation was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., Baton Rouge, on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, April 12, 2013 from 1:30 p.m. till 2:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial conducted by Father Miles Walsh at 2:30 p.m. Interment followed at Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. Pallbearers were grandsons Bert Heller, John D. Eiswirth, Richard Schlecht, Jacob Schlecht, Michael Russell, and nephew A.V. Hanks.
