Rodney Bankston "Slim"

Slim a resident of Addis and a native of Port Allen, La; passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at Nottingham Rehab Center at the age of 61.

He was the owner of Slim's C.B. and retired from West Baton Rouge Parish Office of Public Health in 2011. Visiting was at Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 5 to 9pm and at Holy Family Catholic Church, Port Allen on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 8am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10am, celebrated by Father David Allen. Interment was at Roselawn Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Janet Heimendinger Bankston; son, Travis Bankston and wife Jessica; mother, Charlene Murphy Graves; grandchildren, Tyler Paul, Andrew Joseph, Avery Marie "Baby Doll", and Travis Armand "T.J."; sibling, Teresa Coughlin and husband Robby; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by his father, Dewitt Bankston; and grandparents, Lillie Mae and Charles Murphy who raised him. Pallbearers will be Chester Simoneaux, Matt LaBauve, Jeff Rials, Robby Coughlin, Charles Latiolais and Brian Clark. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jeff and Roger Travasos. He was an active member in Boy Scouts who's achievements included: Eagle Scout Award, inducted into the Order of the Arrow, Scout Master of Troop 38, woodbadge certified, and recipient of Silver Beaver award in 1985. He worked at Philmont Scout Ranch, Camp Avondale and Camp Salmen. Special thanks to Mr. Maurice Pecquet, Rodney's scout leader whom Rodney thought of as a father figure. He was a member of the 1970 LSU Marching Band that was recognized as the All American College TV Band and the 1971 LSU Concert Band.
