Doretha Oubre Jackson passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, LA.
Born in Rosedale, LA, she was 92 years old and spent most of her adult life as a resident of Lobdell, LA. Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 319 N. Jefferson Ave., Port Allen, LA, on Thursday, January 2, 2014, with visitation at 9:00am followed by recitation of the rosary. Rev. David E. Allen conducted the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment followed at Baton Rouge National Cemetery, 220 N. 19th Street, Baton Rouge, LA. Doretha Jackson was a wonderful, loving mother, whose love for her children and family was boundless. She was a dedicated friend and a devoted Catholic who loved the Lord and prayed the rosary faithfully. She was a sweet woman with a kind heart, sharp mind, resilient spirit, and keen sense of humor. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing and spending time with family and friends. She is survived by three children, Wilbert Jackson Jr. (Reginia) of Lobdell, LA, Jennifer Jackson Lotten (Patrick) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Gary Jackson (Claudette) of Sugar Land, TX; seven grandchildren, Latrese Jackson, Wilbert Jackson III, Jarrettin Jackson, Damara Lotten, Dane Lotten, Lauren Jackson and Elysa Jackson; nine great-grandchildren; her devoted godchild Avis Hamilton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Doretha was preceded in death by her spouse, Wilbert Jackson Sr.; parents, Florestan and Mary Falgoust Oubre; and siblings, Mary Oubre Becnel, Laura Oubre Roussel, Belzina Oubre Gilbert, Howard Oubre Sr., Willie Oubre, Floreston Oubre, Cornelia Oubre, Charlie Oubre, Joseph Gayward Oubre and Lawless Oubre.
