A resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014 at Baton Rouge General Hospital.
He was 83 and a retired employee of the City of Zachary with 32 years of service. Visiting was at Carney & Mackey Funeral Home on Friday Jan. 17 from 2-8 p.m. and at Charity Christian Center, 871 O'Neal Ln. on Saturday, Jan. 18 from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. Genie Vlarren. Interment in Rose Lawn Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, all of Baton Rouge, Brendy Powell and Annette Thomas (Lyndon) Sims; four step daughters; two granddaughters, Amanda Thomas and Jeanette (Melvin) Young of Port Allen; one son, Donald Lee London of Baton Rouge; five step sons; four grandsons, Daryl and Keith Powell and Kerwin and Lyndon Thomas all of Baton Rouge; and one great grandson, Cameron Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pinkie Johnson and Joe Thomas, Sr.; one daughter, Lori Ann Thomas; four sisters; and one brother, Osba Thomas.
