Port Allen’s Pelicans added two more wins to their district record last week, giving the team a 5-1 record.
“We could be tied for first,” said Pelicans head coach Brandon Ricard Tuesday morning. “But we won’t know for sure until the rest of the teams finish their makeup games.”
The Pels’ only district loss was their first district game, against West Feliciana, coming off of the holiday break at the beginning of the year.
Port Allen challenged the Parkview Baptist Eagles Tuesday night, beating them 63-57.
“Everyone played well,” said Coach Ricard. “It was a big win for us. The whole team’s been playing really good defense. The defense has created a lot of opportunities for the offense.”
Nick Parker scored 13 points, Telson Allen had 12, Nigel Allen had 12, and Ishmael Lane scored 10.
The Glen Oaks game, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved to Monday night due to the weather. The Pels concluded the first round of district play by dominating the Panthers 70-44.
Nick Parker earned 16 points, Nigel Allen scored 13, and Ishmael Lane had 10.
The Pelicans will begin the second round by taking on the district’s top team, West Feliciana, at home Friday.
