WALKER -- The quest for the state championship continued Saturday for Port Allen girls powerlifting team, as they won the overall championship in the Jeremy Vincent Memorial Meet at Walker High School.
“We did really well,” Coach Brian Bizette said. “We’re growing as a team and everything is falling in place for us to lift well at regionals.”
Kailyn Smith captured one of the four first-place finishes. Smith also garnered the Outstanding Lifter honor at the event.
Other first place winners include Rebekah Tucker, Ashley Honore and Raven Nichols.
Second place winners included Jada Murphy, Charity Winfield, Tyzhanique Montague, Jasmine Collins and Tyquincia Reed.
Mia Darville captured third place.
The LHSAA Regional Meet, set for Feb. 27 at Louisiana School for the Deaf, is next on the agenda for the Lady Pelicans.
“Right now, we have to ride the storm out because I’m nervous about them not having to make weight any longer,” Bizette said. “We also need to make sure they’re all doing what they have to do because one person can make all the difference. It’s like having eleven quarterbacks on your football team.”
