Local volleyball teams garner homecourt playoff spots

Neither of the local volleyball teams will have to worry about a long ride for the first round of playoff action.

Tenth seed Brusly drew No. 23 seed Loyola Prep of Shreveport in Division III, while No. 16 seed Port Allen drew the last homecourt pairing to face No. 17 West St. Mary in Division IV action



Port Allen was set for first-round action at 5 p.m. Wednesday, while Brusly plays at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Other matchups in Division III include Evangel Christian at Westlake, Loranger at Lakeshore, West Feliciana at Cecilia, Xavier Prep at Iowa, Berwick at Haynes Academy, Church Point at Lusher Charter and North Vermillion at DeQuincy.

Ursuline Academy, E.D. White, Teurlings Catholic, Ben Franklin, St. Louis Catholic, Vandebilt Catholic, Rayne and Parkview Baptist – the first-through-eighth seeds – received bi-district byes.

In Division IV, the top eight seeds that got first-round byes were Notre Dame, De La Salle, Newman, University, John Curtis, Iota, Riverside Academy and Runnels.

In District V, matchups of area interest include No. 4 seed St. John  and No. 8 Catholic-Pointe Coupee, which receivd first-round byes. 

Other District V contests include Redemptorist (21) at St. Thomas Aquinas (12), St. Charles (18) at Thomas Jefferson (15), and Fisher (20) at Episcopal (15).

Sixteenth seed White Castle hosts Patrick Taylor, No. 21 seed Family Christian heads to Northside Christian and No. 23 seed False River Academy visits Ascension Catholic.
