KENNER — One night before Brusly faced E.D. White in an opening round football playoff, BHS met EDW for post-season quarterfinal volleyball action.
Unfortunately for the BHS volleyball team, the collision against E.D. White spelled the end of the championship quest.
No. 2-seeded E.D. White closed 10th-seeded Brusly’s 2012 season in a 3-0 sweep in Division III quarterfinal action at the State Farm-Louisiana High School Athletic Association Championship Volleyball Tournament Thursday night at the Pontchartrain Center.
The loss ended Brusly’s season 25-14. E.D. White lost 3-2 against No. 1 seed Ursuline Academy in the championship game Saturday.
“I wish we’d have done better, but overall we achieved our team goal for the season,” Brusly coach Karen Wooley said. “It was one of our pre-season goals to get back to Kenner.”
The Lady Cardinals won on sets of 25-9, 25-12 and 25-12.
“I never saw a ball on the high school level served that hard and that fast,” Wooley said. “They took us out of our game early.
“They had a strong group of hitters who were awesome and experienced,” she said. “Nothing you do can beat experience.”
Chloe Richard led Brusly with eight digs.
The good news for the Lady Panthers: All players are set to return next season.
Wooley is upbeat about the experience her team will bring to the court in 2013.
“We’re excited about next year,” she said. ”Everyone is coming back, and a lot of the girls are playing club ball, so we’re definitely elevating our game. I’m excited about what we achieved this season.
“Now that we’ll have the experience, I’ll definitely expect a little more,” she said.
