With just a few more weeks remaining in Port Allen’s softball season, the Lady Pels know that they must make the most of every game, including their losses. Last week, the girls lost three straight.

Tuesday, Port Allen was defeated by West Feliciana 16-5. Kailey Arnold pitched the complete game for the Lady Pels while top batters were Elexus Hatten, who hit a double and an RBI; and Tristan Jeansonne, who had an RBI.

During the Lady Pels’ Wednesday game, Port Allen was dominated by St. James 16-1.

Margarite Laborde scored the sole run on a hit by Elexus Hatten.

“Errors and pitching really hurt us this game,” said Port Allen’s Softball Coach Alisha Butler.

Friday, Port Allen suffered another tough loss, losing 20-11 to Erath.

In the seventh inning, the Lady Pels scored five runs, but it wasn’t enough to take the victory.

“By the time we started coming back, it was too late,” said Butler. “We had two bad innings against Erath.”

Kailey Arnold pitched a complete game against the Lady Cats. Jamie Perkins had an RBI, and Alesha Murphy hit a single, a double, and two RBI.

“Alesha’s batting has improved significantly,” said Butler. “She’s been working hard on her fielding, and I know she’ll be a great threat next year as a senior. I think she’ll be a good prospect for colleges.”

Butler said that she believes the Lady Pels always want to compete and win games.

“We let our attitudes affect our playing,” she said matter-of-factly. “On a positive note, we know what we’re capable of doing and our hitting has improved greatly as a team. The seniors did really well this week leading the team through the good and the bad. I couldn’t ask for anymore. I think the team learned some lessons and fixed the problems that we had on the field. As long as we don’t fall back into those same patterns of mistakes, we should have a good end to our season.”

This week, Port Allen’s Lady Pels will host Brusly’s Lady Panthers Tuesday at 5 p.m.

“The girls are really excited to play their rivals, and they’re prepared to bring their best,” said Butler.

Thursday, Port Allen will travel to Baker to play the Lady Buffs at 4 p.m., and Saturday, the Lady Pelicans will play Rapides at home st 11 a.m. Although the Rapides game is scheduled to be the team’s senior night, it is still undetermined.
