The Lady Pels wrapped up their last week of the softball season with a win and a loss.
Thursday, Port Allen’s Lady Pels conquered the Lady Buffalos 24-4 in a four inning game. “It was a short game,” said Coach Alisha Butler, “but the girls did really well. We didn’t play down, and we came out with a big win.”
Senior Elexus Hatten and freshman Kailey Arnold each had a triple, while freshman Jamie Perkins hit a double. “We did extremely well at the plate,” said Butler.
With the Rapides and Hanson games cancelled, the Lady Pels played their final game Friday against Brusly’s Lady Panthers for Senior Night. After three quick innings, Port Allen lost to their rivals 0-19.
“It was a pretty rough game and a bittersweet ending to our season,” said Butler. “We could have done better on our base running, but it’s hard to compete with a team that is defending state champs.”
Seniors Elexus Hatten, Tristan Jeansonne, and Margarite Laborde were recognized after the game.
“Our seniors did a good job leading the team against Brusly and throughout the season,” said Coach Butler. “They stepped up and encouraged the underclassman. The girls maintained a good attitude and kept their composure even though we were behind the entire game. That really showed a lot of maturity.”
Butler said she is proud of how far her team’s progressed over the course of the season.
“Overall, it was a very good season,” said Butler. “It was a time for learning and building, but we really grew over the season, and I’m excited about the upcoming season. In the next two years, I think we will have a number of talented girls playing on the varsity level.”
