Westside 9U All-Stars win state championship

The 9U Boys WESTSIDE All-Star team claimed the Cal Ripkin 2014 State Championship on July 7 – a championship that was said to have been four years in the making.

Five of the boys, 9-years-old and younger, started playing baseball together at the ages of six - Charlie Guidry, Carter Goodson, Reed Loup, Bransen Phillps, and Gabe Diamond. The boys finally lead their team to a state title after finishing as runners-up in the last two years.

Carter Goodson was named MVP of the district tournament and pitched a no hitter/shut out game against Madisonville in the state quarterfinals.

During the game Charlie Guidry hit two triples, one double and a single, almost batting for the cycle.

During the championship game, Bransen Phillips pitched six innings, striking out 5 batters.

Reed Loup came in to close the championship game striking out three and helping the Westside All-Stars defeat St. James 12-5.

Guidry was named the MVP of the state championship tournament after batting .733 with 11 RBIs and holding an .833 On base Percentage.
