Port Allen girls powerlifters top 3A regional competition

WALKER -- The Port Allen girls powerlifting team won the championship in 3A regional powerlifting action Saturday at Walker High School.

The Lady Pelicans racked 61 points to win the tournament, ahead of Walker (34).

“We had a good meet,” coach Brian Bizette said. “I think we lifted decent. We scored where we needed and all eleven girls placed first through third. Nobody was left out on the stand.”

Sophomore Brittany Wilson was named Oustanding Lifter for the East Region. She totaled out 1,005 lbs. at the meet.

The boys notched three first place finishes at the meet, as well as a third and sixth place fiish.

Ledarius Williams led the boys lifters with a total of 1,185 lbs.

Port Allen travels to West Monroe for the LHSAA Class 3A state meet on March 15.

Top opponents in state include Richwood and Farmerville.

Those are two teams that can really upset what we’re trying to accomplish – that is, to win the state title,” Bizette said.

Here’s a look at the winners in boys and girls competition.

FIRST PLACE – Jadia Murphy, 515 lbs.; De’Maiya Claiborne, 645; Tyzanique Mongague, 670; Kailyn Smith, 655; Brittny Wilson, 1,005; Justin Franklin, 820; Jeremy Paul, 870; Ledarius Williams, 1,185.

SECOND PLACE – Rebekah Tucker, 485; Gina Mazzochette, 660; Megan Mazzochette, 735 and Destine Snearl, 605.

THIRD PLACE — Tyquincia Reed, 665; Raven Nichols, 735 and Joshua Vance, 1,160.

SIXTH PLACE – Patrick Banks, 710.
