Panthers drop two in E.D. White Tourney
The Brusly Panthers went 1-for-3 in the E.D. White Tournament during the weekend.
The Panthers opened the tourney with an 11-1 rout over H.L. Bourgeois, but came up short 5-3 against Thibodaux High School and 4-3 in action against St. Thomas Aquinas.
In action against HLB, the Panthers spotted their foes a one-run lead in the first inning, but tied the game later in the frame. The Panthers followed with two runs in the second and exploded with eight in the third.
BHS stopped their opponents from any addtional runs and forced the game to a five-inning finish.
Taylor Prejean and Blake Manola each had doubles for the Panthers. Prejean had four RBIs.
Beau Witty allowed HLB two hits. He struck out six.
In other action, Brusly fell 5-3 to Thibodaux after the Panthers allowed the hometown team four runs in the top of the seventh to swipe the win from BHS.
The loss came despite Taylor Prejean strking out nine. The Panthers allowed Thibodaux two hits. Relief pitchers Luke LeBlanc and Cullen Prejean each had one strkieout.
Thibodaux had four errors, while Brusly had three.
In the 4-3 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas, STA held the Panthers to five hits.
LeBlanc and Landon Andre each had two hits and one RBI apiece for the Panthers.
Cullen Prejean had the other hit for the Panthers. At the mund, he struck out four and walked one.
STA led 2-1 at the end of the first and padded its lead by one in the second. Taylor Prejean scored on a passed ball in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but STA scored to prevent the Panther victory later in the inning.
Brusly was set to face Scotlandville at 6 p.m. Friday in the Paul Distefano Tournament at Plaquemine High. The Panthers collide with Hanson at 3 p.m. and face Plaquemine in the finale at 5:30 p.m.
