The Port Allen Lady Pelicans went on a four-game win streak last week, including three in District 7-3A.
Port Allen (8-10) prevailed over Donaldsonville in both games of a double header, came from behind for a win over St. James and survived non-district foe McKinley.
“We’re playing with more confidence,” first- year head coach Sonny Massey said. “We’re still making too many errors, and that’s something we need to get rid of. Plus, we need to be more consistent.”
Consistency wasn’t much of a problem against a struggling Donaldsonville. The Lady Pelicans won 19-9 over DHS in Game 1 and 22-12 in Game 2.
Ashley Thompson, Cambre Pollard and Marguerite Laborde posted three hits (including one double), while Tristen Jeansonne smacked a solo homer.
Port Allen led 3-0 at the end of the first inning, but erupted with six runs in the second frame and another five in the third.
PAHS racked 13 runs in the first inning and another six in the third in Game 2.
Jeansonne led with four hits, including two homers.
Laborde, Pollard, Krystal Storey and Elexus Hatten each notched two hits.
Hatten also smacked an in-park homer.
Jenna Sproles pitched in both games.
In other action, a four-run rally in the top of the seventh lifted Port Allen past St. James 8-4.
Pollard, Andre, Jada Martin and M’Kayla Williams (courtesy runner for Thompson) scored in the seventh for PAHS.
Pollard and Katheryn Andre each had three hits. Thompson and Alicia Murphy each notched two hits.
In a non-district contest against McKinley, Sproles struck out eight in the win.
McKinley led 2-1 in the first. Port Allen used runs from Madison, Vallet, Hatten, Jeansonne and Sproles to take the lead.
The Lady Pels scored two runs in the fourth and McKinley added one.
Hatten led with two hits.
Port Allen returns to action April 2 at E.D. White. The Lady Pelicans host Brusly April 4.
