The Brusly Panther baseball team last week began its quest for the Class 3A state championship with a 10-1 rout over Rayne.
The No. 11-seeded Panthers (24-7) advanced to the 3A regional round, which sent them on the road to face No. 6 seed Buckeye April 30 (after press time). Buckeye advanced to the regional round after a 4-3 win over Farmerville (27).

He struck out eight, walked two and allowed six hits in a complete game.
Prejean also chalked one RBI, reached base twice and scored two runs for BHS. His single to left in the bottom of the sixth scored Blake Manola for Brusly’s final run.

Cullen Prejean had two RBIs. Kwanston Adkins, and Landon Andre also drove in runs for the Panthers.
The Panthers scattered six runs over the first three innings, including three in the opening frame.
After Rayne left a runner stranded in the first, Adkins singled in the bottom of the inning. He advanced to second on a Taylor Prejean walk and scored off LeBlanc’s double to left.
A Cullen Prejean line drive to right brought home Taylor Prejean and LeBlanc for a 3-0 lead.
Brusly stretched its lead in the second when a Witty double to left scored Cameron Willis. An Adkins sacrifice brought home Witty for a 5-0 advantage.
The Panthers widened the gap in the third when Taylor Prejean scored on an Andre ground-out to third.
