Kyesha Thomas may have graduated from Port Allen High this year, but college won’t take her far away from home.
Thomas signed a track scholarship with Nicholls State University.
“They have an awesome program,” she said. “They have a great coach, plus I loved the family atmosphere at the university.”
Thomas was a standout on the girls track team all four years in the program.
During her time with the Lady Pelicans, Thomas won a regional championship in long jump and finished second in the triple jump.
She won district titles in those events three of the four years at PAHS.
Thomas will find herself in the company of a few familiar faces. She will compete along side Victoria Williams, a state champion competitor who graduated in 2011 from PAHS.
She will also compete alongside Ashley Wheeler, a 2013 Brusly High School graduate who recently signed with Nicholls State Uiversity.
Thomas also played basketball and competed in powerlifting at PAHS. She won state titles in powerlifting all four years with the Lady Pelicans.
She said she will miss the family atmosphere from her hometown, as well as the close bond she had with classmates and teammates at Port Allen.
Thomas plans to major in Pre-Med.
