ST. AMANT —The Brusly Maniax 12U won the AYSA Daddy’s Girls Father’s Day Classic at Butch Gore Park.
The Maniax finished 9-1 after five games Saturday — three pool games and two bracket games.
The Maniax beat Lady Hawks of St. Amant 4-2 in the championship game.
The Maniax took the win after they scored three runs in their last at-bat to pull from a 2-1 deficit.
The girls lost a bracket game Sunday morning and won four consecutive bracket contests after that to win the championship.
“The kids did a great job fighting through the heat and fatigue to muster enough energy to win those last few games,” Maniax coach Jory Comeaux said.
Comeaux was pleased with the efforts at the mound by Gabi Mancuso and Ashlyn Lord.
Adriana Cipriano set the tone offensively and defensively all weekend, he said.
Mary-Cathryn Comeaux had two game-wining RBIs.
“She swung the bat really confidently and made some key plays on the defense in centerfield,” Comeaux said. “Also, Caroline Gassie stepped up and filled in at multiple positions and had some timely hits.
Comeaux also lauded the efforts of Kailynn LeBlanc and Bailee Weems, both of whom made great defensive plays and got timely hits, while Gabi Mancuso also had a strong showing at the plate
He was also pleased with Annemarie Peavy’s work behind the plate.
Kaylee Sadden, Sam Landry, Preslie Tuminello and Hailey Weems pitched for a total team effort, Comeaux said.
“They really played hard and fought for each game all weekend,” he said.
The Maniax compete in a state warmup tournament Saturday and Sunday at Butch Gore Park in St. Amant.
The state tournaments rolls into action June 28-30 in Alexandra.
The SEAA World Series is set for July 22-29 in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
