BHS travels to Live Oak for jamboree

The Brusly Panthers travel for jamboree action in a new stadium, where they’ll also face a new opponent.

Brusly meets Fontainebleu, a St. Tammany-based 5Aschool, at 6 p.m. Friday at the Live Oak Jamboree in Watson. It will mark the first year LOHS has hosted its jamboree at the new stadium, which features an artificial turf.

It’s unknown territory for Brusly, The Panthers have never faced the Bulldogs, who compete in District 6-5A along ith Covington, Hammond, Mandeville, Northsore, Slidell, St. Paul’s and Ponchatoula.

“Other than the scrimmage film, I know absolutely nothing about them,” Brusly head coach Erik Willis said. “It’s not like they’re from north Louisiana ... they’re from Mandeville, but we’ve never faced them.”

The Bulldogs, 3-6 in 2012, head into action with senior Chase Sims as quarterback. He served as playcaller only four times in his prep career, so his experience may be limited.

Travis Scearce and Kendrick Marquez are among the leading running backs on the Bulldog offense.

In other jamboree action, the Brusly junior varsity team faces Live Oak at 8 p.m. Thursday night at Live Oak Stadium.
