The Port Allen Pelicans have been playoff contenders throughout the tenure of head coach Guy Blanchard, so it’s only fitting that PAHS lands a post-season regular for its regular season opener,
The Pelicans open their 2013 season -- and the ninth for Blanchard – against Avoylles High School in a non-district romp Friday at Guy Otwell Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Mustangs head into the 2013 season after a 7-4 finish last year, which ended with a 38-36 loss to North Vermillion in the Class 3A bi-district playoff round.
It’s a rebuilding year for fourth-year coach Andy Boone, who must fill the void left by running back Dravon Battiste, who rushed for more than 2,100 yards last season.
Potential standouts for Friday’s game include senior quarterback Danny Edmond (6-0, 175), tight end Junius Boone (6-0, 190) and senior tight end Brett Lambert (5-11, 205).
The Pelicans head into action after a 12-6 win over Albany. DeMarcus Franklin powered Port Allen with two touchdowns.
