Lady Panthers, Pelicans notch volleyball victories

Brusly and Port Allen emerged victorious in non-district volleyball action last week.

Brusly (4-3) posted wins over McKinley and Walker, while Port Allen triumphed in action against False River Academy.

In action against McKinley, BHS took a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-21, 25-18) over McKinley.

Shelby Willis finished with six kills and two digs, while Johnee LeBlanc had four kills.

Caitlyn Williams posted 14 kills and three blocks, while Celeste Daigle notched one ace and 13 digs .Kyle Tolar had one ace, 31 assists and four digs.

“We looked okay, but we still have much more to offer,” Brusly coach Karen Wooley said. “We had a lot of errors. I hope they’re just early season mistakes.”

In other action, LeBlanc had 12 kills to help lead Brusly past Walker 3-0 (25-22, 25-8, 25-19).

Tolar chalked three aces, two digs and 13 assists, while Daigle had one ace and nine digs.

Willis finished with six kills, three aces and three digs.

Brusly hosts Dunham on Monday and Christian Life on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers visit Class 1A semifinalist Catholic-Pointe Coupee on Wednesday.

Port Allen evened its record to 1-1 after a 3-0 win over False River Academy. The Lady Pelicans notched the victory after wins of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-16.

Claudia Areneaux led the pack with 15 digs and five aces for PAHS, while Kassier Dunn had 10 digs. Kaylan Dunn posted six kills.

“I was really proud of the girls today,” coach Wayne Conaway said. “I feel better today after the way things went down against Plaquemine. Our girls did really well today.”

The Lady Pelicans host Scotlandville on Monday and Tara on Tuesday.
