Brusly looking to improve in first district game

Written by Staff Report on .

The Brusly Panthers will be traveling into Baton Rouge Friday night as they open their district schedule against the undefeated University Lab Cubs.

The Cubs, led by returning coach Chad Mahaffey, are 4-0 this season and ranked 3rd in state. They wrapped up last season with a 13-2 record, losing only against Loranger and Evangel Christian Academy.

“They’re a very good team,” said Brusly’s Coach Erik Willis, “but we’re worrying about ourselves, not them. We have a lot to improve on to be successful this season, and that’s something we haven’t done in the last two games.”

After a loss against Belle Chasse last Friday, Coach Willis hopes to strengthen his defense in preparation for the U-High game. In addition, Willis wants to improve his team’s overall endurance.

“We need to play hard like we’re supposed to – that’s the challenge,” said Willis. “We just haven’t been able to play hard all four quarters against worthy opponents this season.”
