West Baton Rouge Parish’s most anticipated game of the season will go down this Friday when in-parish rivals Brusly and Port Allen meet on the football field at the Guy Otwell Memorial Stadium in Port Allen.
The 2-3 Pelicans are currently ranked 182nd in the state while the 1-4 Panthers are 101.
“Their record is so misleading,” said Port Allen’s Head Coach Guy Blanchard. “They’ve played some really good teams, and they’ve held their own. They’re a good team, and Coach Willis does a great job with those guys. When I watch them play on film, I don’t see a lack of effort or kids quitting or bad plays. They’re playing hard, they’re just playing some really good teams.”
Both coaches believe it will be a good game.
“I think our two teams are pretty even,” said Coach Blanchard. “The team that takes care of the ball and makes the fewest mistakes will be the team that wins.”
“I expect to do well, I really do,” said Brusly’s Head Coach Erik Willis.
Both teams are looking forward to the showdown.
“It will be a game of emotions,” said Coach Blanchard. “They’ll be ready and hyped up, just like we are. It ought to be a heck of a battle.”
“We’ll be fired up,” said Coach Willis. “Port Allen week is a big week for the kids. A friendly rivalry where both communities get excited, that’s what makes high school football special.”
