HFS Bears advance to championship, fall to St. Theresa

Holy Family School’s 7-8th grade football team ended their season Sunday afternoon in their league’s championship game against St. Theresa.

The Bears lost to St. Theresa, ending their season with only two losses as a member of the new league, the River Parish Football League, which consists of several other private schools from New Roads, Gonzales, Morgan City, Plaquemine and surrounding areas.

“We had a heck of a season,” said Tony Daquano, Holy Family’s 7-8th grade football coach.

Daquano said that he is extremely proud of his team, which consisted of only 20 players.

“Those young guys played their hearts out,” he said.

Holy Family advanced to the RPFL championship game after defeating False River Academy 6-0 in a playoff game. St. Theresa also advanced to the championship after defeating Central Catholic of Morgan City 29-7.

HFS lost in the championship to St. Theresa 41-15.
