Port Allen High School hosted a basketball jamboree Thursday night in which teams from Livonia, Dunham, False River, Brusly, Port Allen, Catholic High of Pointe Coupee, and Pointe Coupee Central all participated.

The Pelicans took on Pointe Coupee Central and crushed the Cougars, 35-7, proving their dominance on the court.

Josh Walker and Ishmael Lane opened the game with scores for Port Allen, giving them a 4-0 advantage which quickly turned into an 11-0 lead after Walker sank a 3-pointer.

Lane scored again followed by Nic Parker’s two free throws.

Parker then raced down the court to gain two additional points. By halftime, the Pelicans had a 21-1 advantage over the Cougars.

The second half began with a 3-point shot by Jordan Morgan and another by Nigel Allen. Allen racked up four more points for the Pelicans.

Parker ended the game with a slam dunk just seconds before the buzzer, finishing the game with a bang, and a 35-7 jamboree win for Port Allen.

The Port Allen Lady Pels showed off their new, young look during their jamboree loss to False River Thursday night. The Pels’ 11-member team consists of seven freshman, two sophomores and two juniors.

The Lady Pels challenged False River’s Gators, but lost in the final minute. Lady Pel freshman MaKayla Johnson scored Port Allen’s first points, tying the game 2-2.

After a back and forth battle, points scored by Trinitee Johnson and MaKayla Johnson ended the first half with Port Allen ahead 13-9.

In the second half of play, the Pelicans stayed ahead of the Gators with another basket by Trinitee Johnson, but only momentarily, as False River came back to tie the game 15-15 with 1:36 left.

But Port Allen’s youth and inexperience caught up to them as a foul allowed False River to secure the victory with two free throws and a final 17-15 score.
