Port Allen’s Pelicans continued their unbeaten streak at the Brusly Tournament last week, beating all three opponents and receiving the title of tournament champions once again.
Wednesday night, Port Allen took on Southern Lab, dominating the Kittens 67-41. Nick Parker earned 22 of the Pelicans’ points, and Telson Allen earned 15.
In the second game against Dutchtown, the Pels won 63-54 over the Griffins. Parker earned nearly half of the team’s points with 29, followed by Nigel Allen who earned 12.
Friday, the Pelicans went head to head with Brusly’s Panthers, meeting for the second time in two separate tournaments, to battle for the championship. Port Allen won 74-62.
“It seems like every game, a different kid steps up,” said Port Allen Head Coach Brandon Ricard. “Nigel Allen scored 23 points for us in the Brusly game, and Nick Parker scored 21. The kids are playing really well, but I want us to get better, and not taper off. I want to see what we can do.”
Ricard credits his team’s persistence as their key to success.
“The kids have a desire to fight hard and to win,” he said. “They want to do well. They’re willing to fight and overcome adversity.”
The Pels are now 8-0.
“It’s rewarding,” said Coach Ricard. “The kids are enjoying it, and I’m enjoying it. We want to keep it going as long as possible.”
