Lady Pels punished by slew of opponents

Monday, December 16th Port Allen’s Lady Pels played the Capitol Lions, losing 82-24.

“We just kept turning the ball over,” said the girls’ coach Demetrius White. The Pels had a total of 24 turnovers during the game.

“We made a lot of freshman mistakes,” said White. “It snowballed, and that was the result.”

Unfortunately for Port Allen, the results from the following two games weren’t much more promising.

Friday, the ladies participated in the Pointe Coupee Central Tournament, first taking on the hosts: the Cougars. The Lady Pels were ultimately defeated by Pointe Coupee Central, 60-36. Saturday, the Pels lost again 86-56 to the Livonia Wildcats.

“We had a few kids out Saturday, but it was our highest scoring game so far this season,” Coach White said. Freshman point guard Trinitee Johnson scored 31 of the team’s 56 points.

“I saw some improvement from game to game,” said White, “but we just have to keep getting better and start being consistent.”
