St. Gabriel- The Port Allen Pelican basketball team continued their undefeated season as they conquered both of their opponents in the East Iberville High School round robin tournament this past weekend.

On Friday, the Pels (11-0) took on the Dutchtown Griffons (1-8) handily beating them by a score of 65 to 43 in a non-conference game.

Ishmael Lane continued to be the high scorer for Port Allen with his 19 total points and 10 rebounds. He also had 6 blocks and grabbed 3 rebounds.

“Our team really played together well,” said Port Allen head coach Brandon Ricard. “In every game, there is always someone who steps up. Ishmael was that spark for is this game.”

Jordan Morgan also greatly contributed to the win with 14 points of his own, as well as 2 assists and a rebound.

Telson Allen, fresh off of a stellar football season, contributed 12 points, two rebounds and an assist.

“The team has been playing very unselfishly – really together,” Ricard said.

After the 65-43 win by the Pels, they returned to the East Iberville gym on Saturday afternoon to face the (5-8) Dunham Tigers in another non-conference game.

Nigel Allen led the Pelicans with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.

Still showing he had plenty of ball left to play, Ishmael Lane scored eight points with a block.

With a so-far undefeated 11-0 season, Ricard says he is proud of where his team is at the moment.

“We’ve been winning everywhere we go,” he said. “We went 3-0 at the Brusly tournament, and we were 2-0 in the East Iberville tournament. We are going to continue to play like we’ve been playing and win a lot more game – We’re going to make a run for the state championship again.”

The Pelicans are set to play in the Madison Prep Tournament in Baton Rouge on Wednesday at 6 p.m. against the 5-4 Tara Trojans. If the Pels take down Tara, they will continue in the tournament playing the 4-3 Northside Vikings (Lafayette).

“I think this will be the toughest tournament we have faced thus far,” Ricard said.
