Jamborees highlight week for Port Allen, Brusly

The wait is over.

The stadiums will fill amid high energy and bright lights when high school football resumes this week throughout the state.

Jamboree action comprises the schedules for both local teams.

Port Allen kicks off its season tonight (Thursday) when the Pelicans entertain Albany in junior varsity and varsity action in the Placid Oil Refinery Jamboree at Guy Otwell Stadium.

Fitness in the Middle

Brusly Middle School physical education coaches Emily Naquin and Chris Cummings are focused on making sure that their students leave the gym this year with lessons that will apply to their entire lives.

Naquin, who coaches girls basketball, volleyball, and track at the middle school, as well as serves as the assistant basketball coach at Brusly High School, said she wants students to not only be healthy on the outside, but also feel good internally.

Brusly, Port Allen football squads set for scrimmages

After weeks of battling each other, football players from Brusly and Port Allen can now take out their aggression on players from different schools.

With one week before jamborees kick off the 2014 season, Brusly entertains Broadmoor and Port Allen visits Kentwood.

Both games take place Thursday at 6 p.m.
