At 5-17, the Lady Pelicans hope at least one of their last two district games and a late-season tournament will provide the boost needed to reach the post-season fray.

Westside Bulldogs and Brusly Panthers Youth Football head to playoffs

Youth football is thriving in West Baton Rouge as five teams earned spots in the Tri-Parish Youth Football League playoffs.

The Westside Bulldogs are sending two teams - their B squad (9-10 year olds) and C squad (7-8 year olds), while the Brusly Panthers are sending three of their youth squads – their A squad (11-12 year olds), B squad (9-10 year olds), and D squad (5-6 year olds).

Looks can deceive.

Brusly racked up 348 yards on offense, while Vandebilt Catholic mustered only 69 yards on the night and remained scoreless the first half.

But a disastrous second half sent the walls tumbling down for Brusly and allowed the Terriers a 17-13 heartbreaker over BHS at Buddy Marcello Stadium.

After enjoying a three game win streak, which included a win over in-parish rival Brusly in the Sugarcane Classic, the Pelicans fell to the top-ranked University High Cubs 54-12 in last Friday’s District 7-3A game at Guy Otwell Stadium.
