Local basketball action tips off Thursday night

The boys basketball programs hope to continue their success, while the girls aim seek a return to playoff action this season when hoop action tips off Thursday.

All four teams will begin their hoop seasons in the Port Allen Jamboree, which starts at 4 p.m. 

Here’s a peak at what the local teams will bring to the court this season.

Brusly volleyballteam earns first state title tournament spot since 2003

RAYNE — The wait is over.

The Brusly volleyball team had not reached the state championship tournament since 2003. This year, they made it happen. 

The Lady Panthers earned a trip to Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division III title tournament after a 3-1 win Monday against Rayne.

Panthers claim district runner up spot with win over Pelicans

The West Baton Rouge Championship Banner and a District 7-3A runner-up spot went to the Brusly Panthers after a 31-8 win over Port Allen in the 42nd annual Sugarcane Classic at Panther Stadium.

The Panthers finished their regular season run 8-2 and 4-1 in 7-3A, while Port Allen closed out 7-3 and 3-2. Both teams head into post-season playoff action Friday.

Panthers thrash Donaldsonville

DONALDSONVILLE – One week they saw a share of the District 7-3A championship slip away in a loss to St. Charles, Brusly took out some frustration.

Donaldsonville bore the brunt of the Panther aggression Friday as BHS kept a grasp on the runner-up spot in District 7-3A after a 54-8 rout over the Tigers at Floyd Boutte Memorial Stadium.
