Forget the long winter’s nap.
Port Alllen and Brusly high school hoop squads head into the Christmas break on the threshhold of a busy schedule that will lead both squads into the 2013 District 7-3A race.
Both teams will compete in the Madison Prep Classic after Christmas. District season tips off for both teams Jan. 8.
Some new opponents – and some not so new – join Port Allen and Brusly in the newly formed district the Louisiana High School Athletic Association formally approved last week.
Parkview Baptist and West Feliciana – will rejoin West Baton Rouge Parish schools as part of “Greater Baton Rouge Area” District 7-3A.
The Port Allen Lady Pelicans picked up two more wins last week, but one of them came at a steep price.
PAHS (6-4) posted a win Tuesday in St. Martinville and a victory Thursday at New Roads.
Port Allen improved to 6-4, but the Lady Pelicans may have lost the services of freshman standout Jalisa Wilson for the duration of the season.
He wants to have a good time and focus on the players in the event, set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Denham Springs High School.
“It’s going to be a lot of fun, but in the end it comes down to very taleneted athletes on both sides of the ball. That’s what makes it fun,” Blanchard said. “We put them in position to make plays and let them do what they do and enjoy the moment. They don’t feel pressure to win or anything like that.
