Pels girls basketball coach bids PA adieu

The end of the 2014-15 school year marked the end of the road for Port Allen’s girls basketball coach.

Demetrius White said on Memorial Day he left Port Allen High School after a six-year run. His next destination remains unknown.

“I have a couple irons in the fire, but most likely I won’t return to West Baton Rouge Parish,” White said.

No lazy days this summer

Many high school football programs took off this week for a cool-off period between spring drills and the start of summer vacation.

Port Allen is not one of them. The Pelicans headed back to work the day after Memorial Day for the start of what promises to be a busy summer.


New Brusly basketball coach

Brusly High School has hired Kirby Loupe as the new head coach of the boys basketball team.

It shouldn’t take long for Loupe to feel home, since he will basically already be home.

Just five years ago, Loupe was the head basketball coach at Port Allen High, winning a total of 103 games in his four years as head coach.  He led the Pelicans to the Class 3A semifinals in 2008 and the quarterfinals in 2009.
