Road improvement program begins

The city of Port Allen’s public works department has begun work on a four- to five-year, $1.5 million road improvements program.

The first, $375,000 phase includes road improvements to the east side of La. Hwy. 1, specifically:

6th Street from Court Street to Rosedale Road


Whaley pleads guilty

Jamie Whaley, Brusly Police Chief until April 25 when his resignation will be made official, stood before a judge Thursday and declared his wrongdoing.

Whaley pled guilty to a felony charge of malfeasance in office for using a Brusly fleet credit card to rack up $1,120 in fuel charges to fuel his personal vehicle and boat from January 2013-January 2014.


School board OKs steps to demolish Cohn High buildings

The West Baton Rouge School Board unanimously approved, Wednesday evening, a request that would see the demolition of several derelict, historical buildings in Port Allen.

During the monthly school board meeting, the board approved the request to start taking bids to demolish buildings on the old Cohn High School campus.
