The West Side Journal was awarded top honors on Saturday, June 21, as the community newspaper was named the Louisiana Press Association’s Newspaper of the Year in its respective division for the third time in five years.
Former Brusly Police Chief Jamie Whaley was arrested on Wednesday, June 11, and charged with theft, malfeasance in office and two counts of forgery, stemming from an investigation by the Louisiana Inspector General and FBI.
The investigation was reported on June 5 by the West Side Journal after onlookers witnessed officials from the Inspector General’s office removing boxes from Whaley’s Brusly home.
