A decision handed down by the West Baton Rouge Parish council last Thursday is currently preventing a certified hydroponicist, presumably the first in the state of Louisiana, from farming on the seven acres and 20 acres of land he leased on West Acadian Bayou Lane in Port Allen.
The Port Allen fire department celebrated 80 years March 11 at the Port Allen city council meeting.
March 11, 1935, was the first organization meeting of the Port Allen fire department, a department which prides itself on volunteers.
Port Allen City Councilman Garry Hubble revealed Wednesday, March 4 that there are no invoices currently available for a total of about $20,000 paid in legal fees in 2013.
When former city attorney Victor Woods represented former mayor Demetric “Deedy” Slaughter in district court, $9,171.22 was paid to him. No invoices are currently available.
Once again, trailers were the topic of discussion during Addis’s monthly meeting of the mayor and town council, Wednesday, March 4.
With many from the community in attendance, the council decided to table until a later date an ordinance that may cease to allow new trailer parks to be established within city limits.
On Saturday, March 7, a Port Allen woman will have the opportunity to chase her dreams of stardom when she competes in the finale of a singing competition, where she will have the opportunity to win $50,000 and a trip to Los Angeles to audition for NBC’s hit television show “The Voice.”
Shelbe Collins, 25, was pushed through to the top 20 in the “McDonald’s Sound Off” competition, presented by Cumulus Broadcasting and the Horseshoe, and will compete Saturday in Shreveport to become the Sound Off champ.
