Port Allen council votes to overhaul outdated zoning ordinance

The Port Allen city council unanimously introduced an ordinance at the October regular city council meeting that will set aside upwards of $100,000 for the overhaul of the city’s zoning ordinance, which has not been updated since the 1970s.

City Chief Administrative Officer Adrian Genre, who deals with city contracts, said the estimated probable cost of the project with Environmental Resources Management (ERM) is $99,500. ERM is the company the city contracted with for the city’s Master Plan.


Brusly P.D. to purchase body cameras, shotguns

The Brusly Town Council agreed Monday evening to purchase body cameras and shotguns for the police department.

The equipment, according to documented price quotes, will cost the town more than $7,000.

“I know it’s outside of the budget,” said Interim Police Chief Richie Johnson to the town council. “But it’s money that we do have.”

Woods to be inducted into Southern U sports HOF

A West Baton Rouge man will be inducted into the Southern University Sports Hall of Fame in November for his basketball prowess as well as his contributions in West Baton Rouge and throughout the state.

LeeDell Woods Jr., will be inducted November 7 for a college basketball career where he was voted team MVP as a senior and was named to the All-SWAC team.
