Parish being sued over zoning dispute

All one Port Allen man wants to do is to roof and eventually enclose an existing concrete slab on his property. 

Residents and the parish council won’t allow it, citing nonconforming use in an agricultural area, burdens to residents and previous problems with the property.

Now, Floyd Edwards, of 12125 S. Palmer Lane, is suing the parish.

WBR AgCenter Extension hires new county agent, 4-H agent

The West Baton Rouge 4-H and Extension Services programs hope to make an impact with two recent hires, with new associate county agent Steve Borel and assistant extension agent, or 4-H agent, Elliott Scoggs.

Borel, who started his position in September, filled a vacant position left after former county agent Louis Lirette resigned to pursue a venture in St. Tammany Parish.

Sugarfest 2012

Once again, the SugarFest, an annual festival at the West Baton Rouge Museum, delighted young and old with a festival that continues to get bigger and better, according to many of the festival-goers.

With the opening of the their newest permanent exhibit, the Arbroth Store, the museum touted a more spacious festival than ever before, spanning across their campus’ entirety.

PA hires city inspector

Port Allen Mayor Roger Bergeron announced at the Port Allen City Council committee meeting that the city has filled a nearly three-month vacancy for city inspector.

The mayor introduced Milan Lathers, of Port Allen, who at the time of the meeting on Oct. 3 had already worked a little less than two weeks on the part-time job, Bergeron said.

Chamberlain Elementary gets new principal

The West Baton Rouge School Board hired a new acting principal, and is looking to hire a new permanent principal next semester, for one of its elementary schools.

Dr. Amy Westbrook was hired as Chamberlin Elementary School’s acting principal after Joni Nabors transfered to fill a vacant position in the school system’s pupil appraisal program.
